Mountainair Public Schools Bond Information
π« SB9 (Public School Capital Improvements β βTwo-Mill Levyβ)
- No new taxes β this bond does not raise taxes; it simply continues existing funding.
- Supports maintenance and upkeep β funds are used to keep our schools clean, safe, and functional.
- Protects local investment β Funds ensure roofs, heating/cooling, plumbing, and essential systems are maintained.
- Stable funding source β The Two-Mill Levy provides predictable dollars to address ongoing needs without relying solely on the state.
ποΈ Mill Levy for a New Elementary School
- New PreKβ5 Elementary School β Funds expected to be used to replace our aging elementary with a modern, safe facility.
- Includes student spaces β new classrooms, gymnasium, play areas, and specialized learning spaces.
β½ Additional Improvements for Students & Community: MPS anticipates using the funds for the following projects-
- New MS/HS gym bleachers β safe and accessible seating for students and families.
- Track replacement β increases safety, reduces maintenance costs, and expands community use.
- Updated scoreboards β for both the gym and football field, enhancing student and spectator experience.
π΅ Taxpayer Impact
- Small increase in property taxes β based on home valuations, but kept as low as possible.
- Right now, the State could potentially pay for a majority of the construction cost of building the new elementary school.
- Recent legislative changes allow Mountainair PSD to ask for a local match reduction and lower the Districtβs cost burden.
- If we wait, the State may only cover 6%, which means taxpayers would shoulder much more of the cost.
